Chest Handles - Kidney Plate, Set of 2
$250.00

This matched pair of folding chest handles are made strictly in the style of 18th-century handles used on wooden chests- especially tool chests. The ‘kidney’ shaped backplate is a exact replica of the one found on the Duncan Phyfe toolchest c. 1799. The hand-forged handle bow has built-in stops to keep the handle from folding all the way upward when lifted, making for a comfortable hold with which to lift a heavy chest. The handle is assembled to the hand-cut backplate using traditional cold-riveted mortise-and-tenon joints, and the slightly countersunk attachment holes in the plate work well with either screws or our hand-forged nails. Made completely by hand, these authentic chest handles are a nice touch to any chest, and could easily give generations of dependable service.

Backplate measures 5 1/4” x 3 1/4”. Horizontal measurement inside bail is 3 1/2”
